Denise Richards, the actress known for her roles in Wild Things and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, recently shared harrowing details about her past during the Season 3 premiere of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test. The Fox series, which pushes celebrities through rigorous military-inspired challenges, has already shown Richards confronting deeply personal experiences, including a sexual assault she endured at age 15.

Emotional Confession During the Show

After struggling on her first day of training, Richards faced questioning from Directing Staff instructors Billy Billingham, a former SAS Sergeant Major, and Jovon “Q” Quarles, a Navy SEAL veteran. The instructors asked why she decided to join the grueling reality series. Richards candidly revealed that she wanted to learn how to manage fear and remain calm in difficult situations.

“Part of why I wanted to do this course was because I’ve been in situations where I freeze and I can’t function,” Richards explained. “I can’t even speak to protect myself.” This vulnerability set the stage for Richards to recount two traumatic events that shaped her perspective on fear and resilience.

Recalling a Life-Threatening Incident

Richards first spoke about a November 2022 incident when another driver shot at her and her husband while they were driving to a Los Angeles set. The actress described how her husband insisted on accompanying her that day, a decision she now considers lifesaving.

“There was a situation that happened with my husband and I. We were driving. He wanted to take me to set. He didn’t want me going alone, thank God,” she said. “And we were physically shot at in his truck. I sat on the floor and froze—I was so scared, I couldn’t even react.”

This recent episode of fear brought back memories of an even more traumatic event from her teenage years.

Richards then opened up about being sexually assaulted at age 15. She recounted noticing a man following her before he attacked, dragging her while silencing her screams.

“I couldn’t even scream for help,” Richards said, her voice breaking as she shared the details. This was the first time she had told anyone other than her husband about the assault.

The experience left a deep impact on the actress, who now has three daughters. “I want them to be strong enough if something, God forbid, ever happens to them,” she added tearfully.

Seeking Healing and Strength

Reflecting on her confessions, Richards admitted she was surprised by how much she opened up. “I think I haven’t addressed a lot of what I’ve gone through,” she said. “It’s terrifying. I don’t know if I’ll ever fully get over my past.”

Her participation in Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test appears to be part of her journey toward confronting unresolved trauma and building emotional strength.
